Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” This expresses how art revitalizes our daily routines and enriches our lives. Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (SASG) has been dedicated to promoting the value of art by supporting artists and expanding opportunities for citizens to engage with culture and the arts.
In 2024, we supported the creative experiments and new works of our resident artists through various programs, including the screening section of the Open Studio opening event, the Geumcheon Archive, and the Open Project. We also sought to bring art closer to everyday life by sharing the artists’ creative processes and outcomes with the public and by expanding the scope of citizen participation programs. These efforts are especially meaningful in that they have invigorated the ecosystem of artistic creation and expanded cultural touchpoints between artists and citizens. Building on these efforts and experiences, SASG aims to position itself as a hub for cultural exchange—not only in the field of visual art, but also through active collaboration with a broad range of institutions, using outstanding artworks and artists as conduits. Remaining true to the core purpose of an artist residency, we will continue contributing to the revitalization of the visual arts ecosystem by serving as a platform where artists, citizens, and institutions can come together to share and engage with the value of artistic creation. This publication, 2024 Seoul Art Space Geumcheon Archive, faithfully documents the diverse creative endeavors and achievements of the sixteen artists (or teams) in the fifteenth residency cohort. Through this archive, SASG seeks to record and reflect on its operations and experiences, laying the groundwork for exploring the future roles and directions of creative spaces.
