Front & Back
Polyphony Club: Put Flesh and Blood on The Wind records some of various materials (research, critics, and narration) about Jade Sujin Lee's work. The book guides the reader deeper and deeper according to the setting of "virtual sequence towards the center of the earth." For example, it changes from outdoor scenery to bright indoor space photos and from dark exhibition photos to black and white photos, or the background color starting in white gradually darkens to reach the innermost dark brown (a metaphor for underground or inside the earth). In addition, as the content progresses, the size, alignment, and number of letters are varied to add visual weight to the spread, or it is reversed from the middle and implies the so-called "process of departure and return."
On the other hand, the artist uses wood, stones, or ceramics collected from nature as the main materials. I tried to apply the tactile impression felt from it to the book as much as possible. Therefore, I used all the paper as matte paper and no additional post-processing was added. A light green jacket guarantees minimal protection, but it is vulnerable to contamination due to the lack of a separate coating. This, too, is not safe from stains. However, I wanted the mark of time to be included as a part of the cover someday.
